Elizabeth: The Golden Age | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Deborah Ross The Spectator Cate is a wondrous actress but she is scandalously ill served here, and not just by the facile nature of the dialogue... It's as if the director has a checklist of the characteristics he wishes her to display and she should just get on with it. Doesn't cohere into a compelling narrative, but particular scenes are memorable and fun to watch. Jerod S Blanchett is awesome as the queen. If this biopic has factual errors, I wouldn't know and I don't know that I would care if it did. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/06/24 Full Review Dan S This was not as good as the first one! Crirics did not like this because it was too patriotic for Britain!! Thats why I liked it!! Great scenes with Cate Blanchette saying she has a hurricane in her that can strip Spain bare if they defy her in the church!! You can feel the energy. The Spaniards they overdid it that they looked Moroccan not Spaniard. Too much. If I was Spaniard, I would have been offended. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/07/23 Full Review Emma W A Hollywood mish mash of ‘things everyone knows about Elizabeth I. The mythical version'. Looks good - but even this is inaccurate as Queen Bess was much older than Blanchett by now with a mouth full of black rotten teeth. Rated 1.5/5 Stars • Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/11/23 Full Review Ian J This was a very poor movie. Big name cast but just a weak portrayal of the Spanish Armada period. Very disappointed. Rated 1.5/5 Stars • Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/05/23 Full Review Cinetik F too dull to bear it but the leading actress is good Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/14/23 Full Review Angus P Like its predecessor, this film is another poor depiction of history. This time around, the film is just boring. It lacks the intrigue that kept the first film watchable. The Babington Plot is a key part of Elizabeth's history but it just gets cut down into something silly. And the Spanish Armada is just shocking and the Braveheart like scene of Elizabeth in a full suit of armour is just hollywood filth.
