You Can’t Beat Hardwood Floors
There’s a reason hardwood floors are a permanent staple in the design world. Ashley Biscan, an interior design and trend expert for Floor & Decor, calls them the ultimate luxury—and there's no denying that a great hardwood floor instantly elevates any space.
“Wire-brushed and matte-finished oak are especially popular finishes,” Biscan says. “The look adds natural warmth, texture, and comfort to any design.”

Stone Can Work Well In Bedrooms
While we’re used to seeing stone floors in kitchens and bathrooms, Biscan says the rising trend of "quiet luxury" means stone can be a look at works in bedrooms, too.
“Modern stone looks, like limestone and travertine, create a foundation for quiet luxury,” she says.
This is a style that works especially well in ranch-style homes, or anywhere with a more coastal aesthetic—especially if you're lucky enough to live somewhere where sand gets easily tracked into your various rooms.

Keep Your Patterns Classic
We’ve already heard rumblings that checkerboard floors are making a comeback in 2024, and Biscan agrees, assuring us that they can work beautifully in the bedroom.
The key is to tone things down to a more neutral palette, using either marble or tone-on-tone patterns.
“Perfectly suited to a more soothing space, pair Carrara with a complementary light-colored marble for a subtle spin on the old classic,” she says.
But if checkerboard still feels too bold, herringbone is a classic that simply can’t be beaten.
“No matter the material, installing floors in a herringbone pattern instantly takes a look to the next level,” Biscan says. “Whether across the entire room or as a smaller inlay, herringbone is a worthwhile customization for tile, wood, and stone.”

One of a Kind Curation
As our homes become more and more of a reflection of ourselves, Biscan says our floors can also reflect whatever style we choose.
Whether you prefer traditional, mid-century, or maximalist, your flooring is the literal foundation of your space—and it’s all about what goes on top. With this in mind, you can’t go wrong with an organic material as your base.
“Organic textures are an effortless element to design,” she says. “Stone and hardwood ground a room with earthy roots.”
Katie Hudgton, head of marketing at luxury wood flooring specialist Ted Todd, agrees. She says we can expect an influx of rich tones, ornate patterns, and organic materials.

Lighter, More Versatile Bases
Because people are embracing richer, bolder colors, Hudgton also notes that lighter flooring is increasingly common. This has often been the case in terms of wall-to-wall carpeting, but it’s also turning up with light wood flooring, too.
"Light wood feels organic, with subtle tones and interesting textures—the perfect backdrop for a peaceful bedroom,” she says. “It’s also an excellent pairing for vibrant and patterned fabrics, as it provides a neutral base that will tone down busy aspects of the room.”

Wide Planks
Along with lighter woods, Houghton says she’s also seeing a rise in wider planked wood floors.
“Wide planks can be simpler to install while making a room look much bigger,” Houghton says, who also notes that wider planks can act as a more neutral base, too. “They’re an excellent pairing for color and patterned fabrics, as they can tone down busy aspects of the room.”
